Sequin Swirl Hat

This little hat was inspired by a shirt that came from the thrift store with a V-neck trimmed in a wide band of sequins. My mom collects fun vintage-y hats and secretly likes sparkly sequiny clothes, so I decided I wanted to make a hat for her using this trim. She wears a lot of black and white, so I figured it would be good to stick with that.

I made the form myself using some really stiff canvas, originally cut into two eye-shapes with little slits in the center on one side, then shaped overlaping eahcother over the head-form, and then stitched together to hold the right shape. I then sewed on a white satin lining, and then hand-stitched the sequin-fabric onto it. I also hand-stitched a little comb onto the bottom side to hold it on with. There are two layers of gathered tulle stitched onto the top of the hat near the back. The pearls are on a sturdy wire so hopefully they will hold their shape well. I gradually used smaller beads going into the swirl part and also attached a little black bead to the end of that which you can't properly see here, to tie in with the dangly ones up-above, and also which I fascened to the hat itself to help prevent the swirl from getting tweaked.
