awaiting her prince...sigh, I love fairy tales :aww:

and there you see at last the glorious shimmery blue dress! I don't have many pics of it, and this is the best I think, even though it doesn't really show what it looks like. I love the way all the folds of the skirt look here =)

edit: (oh yes, I made it =D)

and now...to view this dress standing up : [link]

I do NOT take any of my pictures with the intention that they be used as stock. I'm indecisive - that's why I post a lot of the 'same' stuff. However, if you really want to use one of them please note me, tell me your plan, and if I say ok link back to the picture you used.

OMG!!! I WANT THAT DRESS!!!!!!! Where on earth did you find that fabric and what kind is it?!?! Absolutely, positively, undeniably BEAUTIFUL!!! :faint: I love everything; the pose, the dress, the fabric, everything! Superb job!

P.S. Did you use a pattern; and if you did, which one?;)

I love how the skirt looks in this pic, I'd love to see that photoshopped to look like a painting :D

thanks!! =D when she flopped down on the bed like that I gaped for a moment at how pretty the swirl of the skirt was and then said 'don't move!' I was quite pleased with how it came out. :aww:

I'm not positive what kind of fabric it is actually, I got it at a discount fabric store called M&L for something like a dollar-sixty a yard - waaay too good a deal to pass up =D it makes that swishy sound kind of like taffeta or watter washed satin, and it seems to be washable - at least I hung it up in the shower and hand washed it and it didn't do anything nasty -I only dared to try that after someone had stepped on the back while my friend was wearing it and ripped a huge hole which wasn't all that easy to mend nicely.

The pattern I used was Simplicity #8725. The picture on the front of the pattern actually has it made with shimmery blue fabric that looks very similar to this. It's a very simple pattern that I've used as a base for a lot of other things. I'm not sure if it's still in print though, I got it several years ago.

You're welcome and thank you so much for the info! I've seen that pattern for sale online, but I've never gotten a chance to buy it. :( Is it an easy pattern to use?

hmm...cool idea =) I'm not sure how, but maybe I'll play around
:iconaelthwyn:
yes it is easy. The dress is pretty basic. there is a top front and a top back piece which I use all the time to base other dresses or shirts off, and then a large skirt piece you pin on under it so you cut it out as one huge front piece and you can either make the back one or two pieces, so -minimal seams. It does however, have these wierd side insets that add width to the skirt, but they make for extra seams in sort of an odd place, and then most of the fabric bunches on the two sides, rather than hanging evenly all the way around (and the sides end up being longer than the rest so it looks like it's made for those hip-bustle things, heh). That's what happens, though, when you don't have three pieces in the front and back, or don't use gores.

I used this for the purple velvet dress as well, but on that I just used the top pieces and then used a string like a protractor to figure out the skirt, and added gores. look at this [link] to see how I do that.

The other problem with this not having three pieces in front is that if you're not relatively flat in the bust, or pretty much the same measurements all the way down, bust shoulders and hips, it won't fit your shape too well. It'll kinda bag a little in front right under the bust, or flatten you. (Lots of different people have borrowed this dress from me so I've seen what it does). So yes it's simple...but it also has some issues. They're not extreem, but it just isn't usually a "perfect fit."

The sleve piece is really wierd looking, but trust me, it turns out perfect. When I first looked at it I thought -huh? no way!- I discovered it's really important to sew it on the right direction, there is a front and back, unlike most sleeves which are symetrical and can be put on either way.

Very beautiful!

It amazes me that this is so black but doesn't have the attitude of a gothic picture. :)
